The difference between the poor and rich nations is not the age of the Nation.

This can be demonstrated by countries like India and Egypt, which are more than 2000 years old and are still poor countries.

 On the other hand, Canada, Australia and New Zealand, which 150 years back were insignificant, today are developed and rich countries.

The difference between the poor and rich nation does not also depend on the available natural resources.

Japan has limited territory, 80%  mountainous, unsuitable for agriculture or farming, but is the second in worlds economy. The country is like an immense floating factory, importing raw material from the whole world and exporting manufactured products.

Second example is Switzerland, it does not grow cocoa but produces the best chocolates in the world. In her small territory she rears animals and cultivates the land only for four month in a year, nevertheless manufactures the best milk products. A small country which is an image of security which has made it the strongest world bank.

Executives from rich countries who interact with their counterparts from poor countries show no significant intellectual differences.

The racial or colour factors also do not evince importance: migrants heavy in laziness in their country of origin are  forcefully productive in rich European countries.

What then is the difference?

The difference is the attitude of the people, moulded for many years by education and culture.

When we analyse the conduct of the people from the rich and developed countries, it is observed that a majority abide by the following principles of life:

1. Ethics, as basic principles.
2. Integrity.
3. Responsibility.
4. The respect for Laws and Regulations.
5. The respect from majority of citizens by right.
6. The love for work.
7. The effort to save and invest.
8. The will to be productive.
9. Punctuality.

In the poor countries a small minority follow these basic principles in their daily life.

We are not poor because we lack natural resources or because nature was cruel towards us.

We are poor because we lack attitude. We lack the will to follow and teach these principles of working of rich and developed societies.

    Lastly but not the least having stated the above few achievement of DR. ASHAKACEM AND UMARU KWAIRANGA: SOMEONE IS TAKING A SHOT IN THE DARK.
 Ordinarily, someone harping on issues that he is not conversant of, deserves no replies to his tantrums, save of course, for the purpose of putting things straight and as they are. I am not holding brief for Umaru Kwairanga, but being someone with the full knowledge of what transpired during his stint as the Chairman of the Board of Directors, I see the need to put the records straight, for the gullible readers, in the public 'court' to understand by disdainful prophrts of doom.
 It is so unfortunate, that someone has failed to appreciate the efforts of this highly enterprising citizen of Gombe, in transforming the lives of the people of the community in AshakaCem. He myopically distorted the truth, for reasons best known to him, that Kwairanga's tenure as Chairman of the Board of Directors was uneventful and a sell out. Unlike my humble self, this fellow has never served in whatever capacity in that company and not even visited it for once, as per as I know. His assertions are therefore baseless, unfounded wicked and naught.

RELOCATION OF VILLAGES:

Some villages located around the company for many years, have suffered as a result of quarrying activities going on around them. As the quarry expanded towards those settlements, their mud houses began to crack. Their complaints fell on deaf ears, while they continued to live in perpetual fear of imminent consequential hazards to their lives. Their dream of being relocated was actualized by the coming of Umaru Kwairanga into the Board and his subsequently becoming the Chairman. He doggedly pushed for the construction of houses for them to be relocated and save them from further danger. It was lots of admiration and jubilation, when he laid the foundation for the building of the houses to commence in earnest. Exactly after about nine months, he came back to commission the newly constructed houses and personally handed each beneficiary the keys to his house. It is now called Ladde Bage and anyone that wishes to confirm can go there and confirm.

THE EXPANSION PROJECT:
Having the realized the low capacity production of cement acutely below one million tons, coupled with the aging of the two production kilns, Kwairanga and the team of Directors he led, initiated a capacity expansion project drive. If completed, it will generally increase the capacity of the company to produce 3.5m tons. The then Minister of industries, Olusegun Aganga laid the foundation for the capacity expansion project on behalf of ex President Jonathan.That project is now camatose and nobody knows its fate, despite the good intentions behind it.
APPOINTMENT INTO KEY POSITIONS:
At a time when succession plan was hardly considered that whenever an officer left office another one is brought from outside the department concerned to take over. Two indigenes of Gombe State, Salisu Ajiya and Hauwa Baba Ahmed were to take over the Marketing and Human Resources respectively, but were not out rightly given the opportunity. Speculations were ripe that the two positions would be given to some ones else. It was the intervention of Umaru Kwairanga that saw to their ascension of the two positions of Head of Marketing and Human Resources. The reason for refusing to give them the positions in time, was that their retirement date has approached.
DIVESTMENT OF SHARES BY THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT:
In 2002 the Federal Government divested all its share holding in the company to the Blue Circle Industries (BCI) of UK, making it the highest share holders. BCI too, was later absorbed by Lafarge, a cement conglomerate of France. That was how the original shareholders of the company, the Federal Government and the six Northeast State Governments lost AshakaCem. For anyone to insinuate that Umaru Kwairanga, who came only eight years later, sold it, is the height of deceit and a crass falsification of facts. As it is now, Lafarge itself, and after the exit of Umaru Kwairanga from the Chairmanship of the Board, has been taken over by Holcim of Poland. the current Chairman of the Board and the Managing Director/CEO are not from Gombe and not even from the original catchment area, the Northeast. is that what we want?

The trend of the bring down syndrome that has eaten deep into the fabric of lives, is clearly taking its toll on us. Some of us do not appreciate the worth of our sons and daughters,  because we never encourage and cherish their success. Of course it goes without saying, that the fellow perpetrating these vendetta, might be having a personal grudge against Umaru Kwairanga. Be that as it may, with that attitude, we will continue to lose the formidable and enterprising efforts of the young men and women, who always see the progress of our people and our state as a paramount quest to move it forward. May the Almighty Allah SWT give us the courage to say and stand with the truth, amin.

In continuation of sarkin fulani foundation's monthly donor program to the local Governments of Gombe state , today the foundation landed in kaltungo L. G. A where delivery items to pregnant women, Rafa and medicine to the less privileged patients been distributed for free at the general Hospital of the local Government. Also, the foundation visited his royal Highness the emir of kaltungo Engineer sale Muhammed at his palace, the emir was welcomed, highly impressed and extremely ebullient by the donor, he also commended the incredible efforts of sarkin fulani towards helping less privileged of the state as well as  bestowed his Immense and sincere gratitude to sarkini and the members of the foundation. From there, the emir of kaltungo Engineer sale Muhammed accompanied the foundation to the general Hospital kaltungo where he launch the presentation of the items to the beneficiaries (it's a great privileged indeed), he urged our Gombe state privileged persons to emulate with the sarkin fulani's kind gesture.

I feel deeply honored as I stand here today to accept this award of a doctorate degree by Nigeria's premier private University, Igbinedion University, Okada. I also feel a deep sense of humility to be counted in the same roll of honour as my distinguished fellow honorees, Alh Sen. (Dr.) Bala Muhammed (Kauran Bauchi), and previous recipients of similar honours from your University including former President Alh Shebu Shagari, Gen. Abdulsalami Abubakar, the Late President Nelson Mandela of South Africa, Most Hon. P. J. Patterson of Jamaica, His Excellency Mr. John Kuffor of Ghana, His Eminence Sultan Alh Sa'ad Abubakar, Hon Justice Alfa Belgore, Hajia Turai Yar' Adua, Mrs Victoria Gowon, Malam Isa Yuguda, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu and Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala to mention but a few. It is a truly distinguished corpus of honorary alumni and I thank you for counting me worthy of such of a great honour.

I have received various awards over the year but this particular one is special to me because it is my first award of an honorary doctorate. It is also special because of the pedigree of the institution that is awarding the honour and the personality of the proprietor, Honourable Chancellor and Chairman, Board of Regents, His Excellency Chief Sir Gabriel Osawaru Igbinedion, the Esama of Benin Kingdom. Chief Sir Gabriel Igbinedion, the Esama of Benin, is a true giant of our time given his achievements in business, entrepreneurship, philanthropy and services to humanity, he is an inspiration to all of us here and so many others across the world. I am pleased to see that he has imbued his spirit of achievement and excellence into this University. I am impressed with the achievements of Igbinedion University Okada which has in just fifteen years produced outstanding graduates in disciplines such as medicine, law, accounting, engineering, computer science, banking and finance and economics. Your university has consistently maintained the highest standards in academics, research and Innovations and the graduates of your institution that I have come across in the course of my work have been worthy testaments of your excellence. I see this honorary doctorate degree as a call on me to represent Igbinedion University well strive for excellence in all that I do and at all times. I promise not to let the University down.

One other trait of Esama of Benin which I must Mention is the fact that he is a consummate bridge builder. Chief (Sir) Gabriel Igbinedion is noted for having a global network of friends and associates. I believe at this trying time in our history, bridge building is an attribute that we all need to cultivate. Too often, human beings allow rivers to divide them, rivers of religion, rivers of tribe, rivers of class, rivers of colour, etc. We too often stand distant from one another, distrustful and misunderstanding one another because we fail to build bridges that will enable us see others view points and understand ourselves.

I have tried to live my life as a bridge builder by striving to get close to all and sundry with a view to understanding, knowing and living in harmony with my fellow man, be he Fulani, Yeroba, Igbo, Hausa or Benin and I have been the better for that. Bridge building is a task that I wish to recommend to all of you here present especially to the current state of graduates as they go out into the world. This is more so in view of the unfortunate crisis that is bedeviling our country. You should always consider yourself first as a Nigerian and be proud of that fact and consider your fellow brothers and sisters as Nigerians irrespective of their religious, tribal or regional colourations. The university has found you worthy both academically and morally as such is awarding you this great honour which so many are clamouring for. You should honour this great Award by going out of your way to assist all Nigerians in whatever way possible. In my own little way I am instituting a yearly award for best performing business student with the hope that this will further stimulate excellence in this great University.

In conclusion, I wish to thank all those who have contributed in various ways to making me the man that stands here today, a proud recipient of this honour. I thank my family, especially my dear wife Mami and our Children. I thank my life Chairman (Alh) Dr. U. A. Mutallab CON, Amb. Shehu Malami (Sarkin Sudan) and Dr. Nuruddeen A. Alhamdulillah, successful Jaiz Bank AGM at YarAdua Centre Abuja. All resolutions overwhelmingly Passed by Shareholders including Re Election of Directors. Alh Dr. Umaru Kwairanga (Sarkin Fulanin Gombe) was Re-Elected for another Term of 4 Years, also majority of the Speakers at the event commended Board of Directors for the successes achieved by the Bank in terms of Deposit, Investment, Profit, National Licence, Share Capital etc.
